Our History

In June 2017, a group of students (Class of ‘75) informally met at Muscovado Restaurant (now Vayberri on the Greens) to dine and rekindle fond memories of our student days at TGSS. Many of us had not seen each other since we left school in 1975. As the evening progressed, we opened a discussion about meeting with the school principal to determine how we can positively impact our Alma Mater. Three classmates volunteered to visit the school to meet with the Principal. At the meeting, a number of projects was identified. We created a What’s App phone group to stay connected with each other. For the next three years, the enthusiasm to give back waned but never died.

In the earlier half of 2020, a smaller group of students revisited the vision of giving back. They formed a new what’s app group called the TSS Action Group and once again three classmates returned to the school to meet with the principal, Ms. Thomas. At the meeting, all parties discussed a vision of forming an Alumni Association. Ms. Thomas enthusiastically introduced a student from another year group who shared a similar vision. The principal identified several projects to improve the school environs and to enhance student learning. Of those identified, the projects undertaken were the refurbishing of the Form 1 classrooms and the repairing of the Block B corridor ceiling alongside the playing field.

As the projects neared completion, we collectively decided that we needed to pursue a wider network of support to complete the other identified projects. Forming an Alumni Association became the obvious vehicle to build the support we needed. From mid2020 we met via Zoom each Thursday for several months as we worked feverishly developing our mission, vision and constitution. Along the way, we reached out and were joined by alumni from other year groups.

Our core group began to grow and with this growth, new ideas and many valuable contributions were made. Despite the Covid – 19 restrictions these were some of the achievements of 2021:

  1. Interim elections in February.
  2. Official Registration of the Alumni on June 5th 2021 as a Non – Profit Organization.
  3. The first Alumni Association in Trinidad and Tobago to register its trademark with the IPO.
  4. Establishing social media presence including developing a website.
